New work!

Full-Circle-Postcard.jpg

I’ve just put up an art show at a restaurant in Fargo. Yes, a restaurant. In Fargo.

With my work becoming more about energy and connection, it made sense for me to share my work in a space where conversations are happening daily. Especially in a red state. Especially since the folks at Luna are outspoken about doing what is right.

Plus, my work has been in Luna two times before, once during the flood of 1997 (when it was just a coffee shop) and again several years ago when I needed a space for my show “Homecoming”, which also held space for Gray Matter Series: Sense of Self. I guess it is a Full Circle in and of itself.

The term “full circle” has little to do with anything reaching a finite ending. Instead, it is an ongoing process of returning to a place, theme, or experience with a new perspective. This is a perpetual and consistent cycle of growth, connection, and consciousness. It’s a duality of simultaneous movement and stillness.

As we pass through one year of a pandemic, we are collectively held in the space of recognizing how much has changed–or hasn’t changed. We are reconciling our roles while knowing the cycle will continue. And in that reckoning, humbling ourselves and agreeing we have much to learn. The greatest processing and challenge of our learning is to know that is no returning to the way things were; there isn’t a true ‘before’ to go back to.

Creating this series was an exploration of this reconciliation by using painting and ice dyeing as a meditative space. While finding stillness in making, I actively created a sense of energy on a canvas as I processed my own “full circle” experiences. Some came together fluidly, others required layers of processing until a sense of recognition was achieved.
