In Support of Quiet Collaborations
I’ve got a very meaningful collaboration going on right now, and I am not going to tell you about it. And that is ok, because not everything is meant to be shared in a constant stream of content. I believe that there is magic in creating without needing it to be shared or received by anyone other than the ones that I am creating with. It creates an intimacy of art and allows those involved to truly cherish it.
In a way, this is akin to creating merely for the sake of creating, which can be one of the best ways to ignite our creative spark. There is no need for affirmations or scheduling out posts or inviting folks to show up and share in the experience, although I do adore all of that.
In fact, if you are reading this you are likely one of the people in my circles that I LOVE sharing the things I work on with. So why am I holding back?
Well, I love a good secret. I love that I can hold on to secrets for others, which is kind of what is created in the core of artistic and energetic exchange. We see parts of others and share parts of ourselves when we deeply show up in collaboration, and I want to cherish the beauty of that.
As things slow down and the days get shorter, we need to make room for stillness and the exhale. And we need to make room for eachother in ways that are more about connection and less about transaction. More about seeing truth of our dear ones and less about liking their instagram posts.
My challenge for each of us going in to the holiday season is to embark on a quiet collaboration. It could be creating a meal with friends and NOT POSTING ANYTHING and just being in the moment, or initiating a traveling sketchbook that gets sent back and forth between you and a friend with doodles and questions and masterpieces inscribed that are just for the two of you.
Let’s reclaim the intimacy of creating together without expectation or applause.
