Working with the New Moon to Nourish Our Creativity

If you have been paying attention to the cycles of the moon, or have taken any of my workshops, you’re likely familiar with the concept of setting intentions at the new moon. Here’s the thing- you are not supposed to act on these intentions immediately. You are supposed to sit with them. Release them.

Each new moon has its own energy, aligned to the astrology of each month. I love to check out Chani Nicholas for recommendations on what to focus on based on my personal sign.

We forget that rest is fundamental to our creativity. We assume that creativity is the act of creating only, when there are several stages to it. We do require rest and introspection to ruminate on ideas, to let things percolate. When we only see productivity as a valuable expression of our creative energy, we miss out on the depth and beauty that comes from taking time to let ourselves get bored, release our perceived pressures, and just let things be.

To fully nourish ourselves and our creative practice, take time to be and reflect on what you would like to bring in to your life or creative work. If you are moved, you can make a list. But do not pressure yourself. Let yourself have a moment of stillness and feel the wisdom of divine nature meeting you in your pause, ready to co-create something beautiful with you over the next several weeks and beyond.

PS- if you are in Fargo/Moorhead July 30th, I will be teaching a workshop on Nurturing Your Creative Practice with Nature at the Rourke Art Museum. If there is interest, I will also offer this class online in August. Let me know if you have any questions!
