Bright Moon Salon Guest: Leeya Rose Jackson

I am so excited to be able to announce our November Bright Moon Salon: Leeya Rose Jackson. Monday, November 7th from 6-8pm.

Leeya will be at the Arthouse for an artist residency for a week in November and the timing is so perfect for the Salon. We are fortunate to have such a force of nature joining us to share her story and her brilliance. She will lead us in discussion about the rituals we create for our creative process. Be ready for some engaging, inspiring conversation that will help us all go deeper in our practices.

Leeya Rose Jackson is a Painter, Art Director, Illustrator, and Graphic Designer from Detroit, Mi, and living in Minneapolis, MN. She runs an illustration shop under her moniker, Leeya Makes Noise, and is the Creative Founder of Noisemakers Design Shop. Her artistic journey began in her youth, selling gel pen tattoos and designing prom dresses, but she was fascinated with astronomy and thought she’d become an astrophysicist until college. Her work explores the intersections of identity, specifically Blackness, femininity, and queerness, with the added motifs of celestial/universal surrealism. In her recent journey to being diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, she has also started to explore questions about Black Neurodivergence in her artwork. Distinctive features of her work across all mediums are loud, vibrant color, maximalism, and afro-futurism.

She has practiced painting for 12 years, earning her BFA in Fine Art from Illinois Wesleyan University. She has exhibited in Florence, Italy, Detroit, Boston, California, Minneapolis, Fargo, ND, and North Adams, MA. Her painting has been commissioned by The Mall of America, On the Block Festival, and The University of Minnesota. Her illustration and graphic design have been commissioned by Afropunk Music Festival, American Public Media, The Coven Mpls, Adobe x Billie Eilish, Sony Music, Giphy, Outside Lands Festival, Heinz, The Prince Estate, and Voyageurs National Park.

The registration cost this month goes to supporting Leeya’s transportation costs, both her trip up north and travel about town while she is here. To register for the Bright Moon Salon, please venmo $20 to @workerby, or email me.

Take care and see you soon!

xoxoMs.AnnaLee
