Bright Moon May Guest: Alicia Hauff
I’ve been looking forward to this Bright Moon Salon for months, as Alicia Hauff and I have been chatting about her hosting an eco printing workshop at the Arthouse once the weather is nice enough to get into the gallery at the Arthouse. Thursday, May 4th at 6pm is the day!
The community contribution associated with this salon is $25 per person- $20 to cover materials and resources, and $5 will go to support the Arthouse. Please venmo @workerby to secure your spot. We may need to cap the total around 15-18 folks. This is the average amount we get at a salon, but we will need to be a bit more intentional with the RSVPs due to space and resources, so be to sure to sign up as soon as you know you can make it.
For those of you who have not met Alicia yet, she is a fierce and loving force of an artist and woman. We are fortunate to have her in our community and I look forward to what we will all create together with her guidance!
From Alicia:
Wear clothes you don't mind getting a bit dirty and/or an apron if you prefer
We will use a natural dye from a tree called logwood, and your fingers will get a little blue-purple but it washes off within a day!
I have plant material I foraged from last summer/fall, including goldenrod, dockroot, and numerous random materials from past floral bouquets. The intent is to give plant material a second purpose or 'life,' and I invite people to bring any plant material that might be on its last leg from the counter, or trimmed from your garden, etc.
We will get down into it fairly immediately to allow for time to dye the bundles, and the waiting time will be used for guided discussion
ARTIST STORY
Explorer + Creative
I am a mixed media fine artist living in Fargo, North Dakota. Art has long been a primary way I process and move through the world. My work is grounded in gratitude and informed by science, natural history, and my own connection with the land.
A natural scientist and explorer, I have always studied the world around me with an insatiable curiosity. I am highly driven to get to the roots of things, make connections, gain insight to share, and truly see things as they are in all their nuance.
I am a foraging curator, noticing the subtle color variations, textures, lines, and movements around me. I gently collect what I find--botanicals, fodder for ink, ideas, aesthetics, and play around until I find the spark of the next idea. I see my creativity as an act of reciprocity with the beauty all around me.
Mixed media means it's all on the table, and I never get bored. I keep it fresh living for the adventure of daily life. I do not question the journey here; I live in gratitude for it daily.
When I’m not painting, you’ll find me tending to all of the creatures in my life with my partner, including three sons, an Aussidoodle named Louie, houseplants, and gardens.
